Have you ever really done your best? Really?

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013

In this chapter we’re going to discuss how individuals that have developed certain skills whether it be in sales, sports, public speaking, playing the piano, acting or whatever, that are performing below their skill level, can benefit greatly from hypnotherapy. Using hypnosis will enable one to change how they see themselves performing. Hypnotherapy will sharpen their skills and their abilities and will bring about startling improvements in their performance.

When a person analyzes their performance they are doing so with the beta or conscious mind. The nick name for the conscious mind is the critical mind. Interesting isn’t it? Have you ever really done your best? Really? Have you ever wanted to do your best, but came up short? Have you ever had the feeling deep down, that maybe you could have done better? That something was holding you back? That possibly… just possibly, even though you didn’t mean to or want to, that you were somehow sabotaging yourself? Unwittingly… you probably were. Most people’s belief system in their abilities has been corrupted by others opinions of them, including parents and family as they were growing up, by what has been said to them.

I’m Bob Crow. I’m a behavioral therapist practicing in Atlanta GA. I’m board certified in clinical and medical hypnotherapy. A great deal of my practice is performance oriented. I work with people that wish to improve their performance in sports, sales, weight loss, public speaking, marital relationships, family relationships, and work place relationships – in fact anywhere they wish to excel – hypnosis will be very beneficial.

How a person sees them self is the most determining factor in how they’ll perform. If one sees themselves in their subconscious mind as an average or a below average performer, no matter how much motivation or training they receive, they will perform in an average or below average fashion. Period. If our subconscious sees us as having limited abilities – that is how we will perform.

Why doesn’t “psyching” yourself up – work? It’s because when one attempts to psych themselves up; the only tool at their disposal is the conscious mind. But… that isn’t where the lack of confidence and limiting beliefs are located! Those beliefs are located in the cognitive maps of the subconscious mind. Therefore to bring about the desired increase in performance, one must work with the subconscious mind, and the only way that the subconscious mind can be accessed deliberately is through hypnosis. That’s why hypnosis is known as the bridge to the subconscious mind.

I have individuals that come to see me because they want to be able to speak in public. With hypnosis, I work with them not just to be able to deliver the speech without messing up – but to make a truly exciting, interesting and compelling speech. You can’t do that unless you see yourself as a great public speaker in your subconscious mind.

We’ve discussed how trying to psych yourself using your conscious mind can’t work long term and short with any discernible amount of difference. So in whatever area of your life, where just trying harder didn’t seem to make any appreciable difference, call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 for a complimentary consultation. We’ll visit about what you are wanting to improve at and you can determine whether you want to utilize the power of hypnosis – not to just do better, but to excel!

About taking action

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

Hypnosis is the remedy for failing to take action. Rarely does one continue to not take action for any other reason than fear. Kicking the can down the road, preparing and over preparing, delaying for just the right moment are all nothing more than procrastination. Period. Rationalization is just lying to yourself! An individual paralyzed by fear will most often dispute and deny this is the case. They continue to come up with reasons – actually their excuses to delay the action that they need to take. Of course they vehemently defend that they’re avoiding taking this action.

Why doesn’t reading self help books and listening to positive CDs help? It’s because those efforts can only access the conscious mind! But… the fear that keeps one from taking action is located in the subconscious mind!

Quite often the individual wanting to sell someone something will have one coffee meeting after another without ever… asking for the business! They don’t want to ask for the business, because the individual that they’re selling to might… say no! An individual paralyzed by fear doesn’t realize it, but by putting off taking the action or asking for the order, they feel that they can’t be turned down, so therefore they haven’t failed!

If you think that this might be something that you need to confront, call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 for a complimentary consultation. Bob Crow is a behavioral therapist, board certified in clinical and medical hypnotherapy. Bob Crow is a co founder of the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Change.

Fears and phobias and hypnotherapy

Monday, July 22nd, 2013

My name is Bob Crow. I’m a behavioral therapist practicing in Atlanta Georgia, board certified in medical and clinical hypnosis. What is the difference between a phobia and a fear? A phobia is an unreasonable fear such as riding in an elevator, claustrophobia or agoraphobia which is being afraid of leaving one’s home. In general all phobias should be eliminated. Some fears are healthy – I’m afraid of sticking my hand in the cage of a lion at the zoo. That fear keeps me safe.

With the exception of being afraid of loud noises and falling backwards, we are born fearless. We aren’t born afraid of heights, snakes, making sales calls or public speaking. We are taught those fears, often by well meaning parents, relatives and others that influence us negatively. A young child spends the first five years of his or her life mainly in their subconscious mind. Anything and everything negative or positive that is told to the child about themselves goes straight into the child’s cognitive maps. The cognitive maps are a combination of auto pilot and guide. Kind of a “this is what I know and believe”.  At this point, everything they’re told about themselves – good or bad… they will believe because the minds filter, the conscious or “critical” mind which allows them to select what they want to believe isn’t developed yet. So… limiting beliefs are accepted as gospel.

No amount of rational thought or positive thinking can counter fears or phobias, because rational thought is a function of the conscious mind… but the limiting beliefs and or self opinions are located in the subconscious mind in those cognitive maps.

So where does one go to negate fears of public speaking or a phobia of riding an elevator? The only place is the subconscious mind. And… hypnosis is the only way that we can access the subconscious deliberately. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

If you have a fear of public speaking or any other fear that you want to move past, or if you have a debilitating phobia, contact Bob Crow at the Atlanta Center for behavioral change – 404.277.1827.

Why’d I do that? or Why hypnosis?

Monday, November 5th, 2012

Have you ever asked yourself “why’d I do that?” You did it because of the programming of the cognitive maps in your subconscious mind! But why hypnosis?

Who we are. What we’re about… our personality, our habits, our moods, our memory banks, our cognitive maps – are found in our subconscious mind. In order to make any permanent behavioral changes in your life, you’ve got to make changes in how you see yourself and what you see yourself capable of achieving! I’m Bob Crow – a behavioral therapist that is board certified in both clinical and medical hypnotherapy. I practice in Atlanta Georgia.

Many have tried to improve their life using discipline, willpower, resolutions and positive thinking. The reason that one cannot make these changes permanent is because they are attempting do so with the conscious mind – not the subconscious mind.

Some have wanted to:

  • Stop smoking.
  • Lose weight permanently.
  • Maybe not drink as much.
  • Be more confident.
  • Be more self assured.
  • Be a better sales person.
  • Become a great public speaker.
  • Become a better husband, wife or manager.

Others might have desired to

  • Shoot scratch golf.
  • To have a killer serve in tennis.
  • To perfect their music or acting.
  • To be an engaging entertainer.
  • To get rid of anxiety.
  • In other words to excel in life!

In efforts to make behavioral changes in their lives, they’ve read tons and tons of self help and positive thinking books. They’ve attended motivational speeches and bought and listened to motivational cds and cassette tapes. They’ve really tried. But they tried by using their conscious mind – not their subconscious mind!

Efforts to make behavioral change using the conscious mind are destined to fail. Period! Permanent behavioral change – meaning behavioral change that lasts for more than a couple of days… can’t be made in the conscious mind. Habits, either good or bad aren’t located there. They’re located in the subconscious mind! That’s where one has to go in order to effect real, permanent behavioral change.

Permanent behavioral change must occur in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is made up of the alpha and theta states. The alpha and theta states or modes are where we find our cognitive maps. A working definition of the cognitive maps comes from the Downs and Stea* text book – Cognitive Mapping and Spatial Behavior: “Cognitive mapping is the process by which and individual acquires, stores and recalls information about their everyday life.” These cognitive maps are where we find our habits and opinions. Opinions of who we are… confident, self assured and strong or timid, scared and fearful? These maps direct our behavior. If we want to change our behavior – we must do it by reprogramming the cognitive maps in our subconscious mind. Reprogramming these cognitive maps are the key to changing our behavior. The only way to access the subconscious mind deliberately is through hypnosis.

Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

One can just keep on trying to make the changes in their life just as they have in the past with positive thinking, the self help books and the listening to motivational speeches. But if it hasn’t worked long term in the past, then it won’t work in the future either. Albert Einstein said that “trying the same solution that hasn’t worked before, on the same problem, hoping that somehow it will work today, is the mark of insanity.” Well I don’t think its insanity, but it is kind of useless – isn’t it?

Excelling in sales?

Friday, September 7th, 2012

Hypnosis helps a salesperson to excel, to the best they can be.  There aren’t too many people that from the first grade on, want to grow up and be a salesperson. In fact many people get into sales by default – meaning at some point in their life, it was the only option available to them..  In my practice I use hypnosis to help salespeople become more effective, high functioning people and by doing so they become better at sales.

The day of the slick “used car” type of salesperson has been long gone. Now people are more counter suggestive than they were a long time ago. But if you are willing to get to the top of your game in sales today, you can have an incredible life and lifestyle. It can truly be a rewarding experience. In a word – be the best.

Let’s take a moment and let me give you the Bob Crow definition of what sales really is. Are you ready? Please allow this to sink in.

Sales…is acquainting people with what is good. With that as how you see yourself and what you do – you should definitely hold your head high and be the very best at it. That means being so good in all phases of your work, not just selling aspect, but all of it. Getting up and doing the things that make things happen.  Remember this truth. Are you ready? If you do what you don’t want to do when you don’t want to do it… someday… you can do what you want to do when you want to do it.

See yourself as an authority. Speak with authority. Act with authority. See yourself as not only great at your personal sales and at the top of your game; but see yourself as being in demand as a speaker as well, instead of parroting the slick slogans, catchy comebacks and clever closes some hotshot speaker says work allow your true confidence to come through.

How does one make these changes? Well not with the conscious mind that’s for sure. How many seminars or workshops or conferences have you left excited about, only to fall right back into your old rut? Right. You can’t make behavioral changes in the conscious mind; these changes must take place in the cognitive maps of the subconscious mind. If you want to really excel at sales – give me a call. If you want to get to the top of your game and stay there, call me at 404.277.1827 for a consultation.

Don’t give into a “whats the use I’ll start again tomorrow day”.

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

You had a great week going diet wise.

You ate right Monday.

You ate correctly Tuesday.

The same on Wednesday.

Ditto Thursday.

No slip ups on Friday. Wow!

Saturday morning and you are still on track.

However. You went grocery shopping after breakfast on Saturday and even though you promised yourself that you wouldn’t, you did have a sample at the grocery store. Well, “one sample can’t hurt, besides it wasn’t that many calories.” But, you circle back and have another. When the sample lady wasn’t looking you grabbed another. The guilt is starting to set in. Now you go past the sausage samples and grab a couple. It is meat. Right? Next come the pizza samples and you grab two this time. Telling the lady that you are taking one for your husband or wife. You eat them both. “I am not going to eat anything else.” But… the lobster dip with crackers is too hard to resist. So are the little cookie samples. Likewise the pieces of truffles.

You stand in the checkout line and mentally add up the calorie and carbohydrate damage. You are sick. You are angry at yourself. You feel guilty. You’ve really ruined your diet. You’ve ruined a whole weeks worth of diet. You feel depressed and you are upset with yourself. What you really want to do is make yourself feel better. You are going past the snack bar and say the words of defeat and self sabotage. “What’s the use? I’ve totally ruined the day diet wise. I’ll get a couple of pieces of pizza at the snack shop. And I’ll really give it 100% tomorrow.” “That will make me feel better.” You do. It does. It makes you feel better… for two or three minutes.

Sound familiar? Isolated incident? Or is this part of a pattern that you have followed for years. Why can’t you lose weight?

The answer is simple. You are trying to lose weight with the willpower and discipline of your conscious mind. That simply can’t be done. Try and think of someone you know that has lost weight and kept it off for a couple of years. Let me repeat. One cannot lose weight and keep it off by using the discipline and willpower of the conscious mind. It doesn’t matter what diet you use, if you are trying to lose weight in the conscious mind, with only willpower and discipline going for you, it will not work.

What is the solution? Hypnosis. You need to change your behavior, and you cannot make behavioral change in the conscious mind. Behavioral change can only be made in the subconscious mind. The subconscious is where you find your behavior, your personality, your memory banks, your moods and your habits. It’s where your cognitive maps are located. The cognitive maps guide us through our automated behavior. It’s where our inclinations to act come from.

No one overeats because of  nutritional concerns. Everyone who over eats, does so for emotional reasons. They are upset. They are sad. They are angry. They are worried. They feel lonely. They want to feel better. Wouldn’t it be better to find out why you are overeating and fix yourself? Make the correction? Many confuse eating healthy with losing weight. You can put on fat by eating healthy too.

Are you serious about losing weight? If you are committed to losing your weight and keep it off for the rest of your life call me. Most, if not all of my Atlanta, Georgia weight loss practice, are men and women that have repeatedly attempted to lose weight their entire life. Once your subconscious mind is on your side, and your inclinations change, you will be thrilled with your permanent weight loss. I offer a complimentary  consultation to see if hypnosis will work for you! Call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 to lose your weight and keep it off.

Making self fullfilling prophecies work for you!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

How many times when something bad happened to you have you said  “I knew that that was going to happen” or “This always happens to me” or “Everything always goes wrong” or “I just knew it wasn’t going to work out the way I wanted it to?”

Interesting isn’t it? What do you think you were visualizing in your subconscious mind before things went sour? Not what were you wishing for – what were you visualizing? Were you visualizing a happy and productive result? Or were you visualizing something that you didn’t desire? Hoping for good things and visualizing good things are vastly different! What were you visualizing? Are you sure? Then why was the first thing out of your mouth – something to the effect that you knew in advance the things were going to go sour?

Many people visualize certain things in their conscious mind, but where and when it really counts they are visualizing what they don’t want. We were not born afraid of spiders, or snakes, or climbing trees, or public speaking, or riding in elevators or any other limiting behavior. No… we were all born with only two fears, falling backwards and loud noises. Everything else was learned.

Man is the only machine that is meta programmable. That means that he can reprogram his cognitive maps that are found in the subconscious mind! How does one program the subconscious in the first place? It is done in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. During the relatively short period of REM sleep, the subconscious can process eight hours worth of material in five minutes! A dream or nightmare that you felt went on for hours probably lasted for from three to twenty seconds. Now if all the subconscious has to process is previously processed garbage – the cognitive maps only get negatively reinforced.

The only way that one can access the subconscious mind is through hypnosis as hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious. Hypnosis is controlled daydreaming. One cannot make the behavioral changes that need to be made in the conscious mind. That’s why pictures of Bentley  automobiles and zillion dollar houses on your bathroom mirror don’t work. You are trying to effect behavioral change in the conscious mind and that can’t be done.

If you wish to begin visualizing what you want to happen in your subconscious mind,  call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 for a complimentary consultation.

The price of success versus the price of failure

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Hollywood and television producers, many of the educational and political elitists and others that already have money, lament the price of success. Success is often portrayed in the media and the entertainment industry as evil and causing a person to be morally bankrupt. Of course there is a price of success, but there is also a price to be paid for failure. The price of failure is far more costly. You see, you will pay the price of failure every day, day in and day out for the rest of your life. You pay the price of failure on the installment plan – literally and figuratively.  You pay it on the installment plan for the rest of your life. This writer doesn’t know what it takes for you to feel comfortable, but you and your family having less will not cause others to have more. This much is sure, life will extract a price from you. You were designed for excellence but programed for mediocrity. A winner is most often a happy person.  You can be as successful as your dreams and effort will take you.The choice is yours!

The challenge of change

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

October 12th, 2008

If you questioned people and asked them if they wanted their life to change for the better – they would generally answer yes. A better marriage, a better home, a better vacation – better income. Maybe the change that they covet would be to lose weight and keep it off. The change might be to stop smoking once and for all. Or the change might be from either drinking too much to drinking in moderation, or to abstain from drinking altogether. If you want your life to change for the better, you must change it for the better! Many want their change for the better to be to stop self-sabotaging themselves in relationships, in their career, in their job, in their performance or on the golf course. The list goes on and on.

Many have tried to make changes with the willpower and discipline of their conscious mind and have found that it just doesn’t work. Wishful thinking, going to seminars and work shops that promote affirmations, mantras, listening to positive CDs and reading positive books can not accomplish the significant behavioral changes needed to bring about a better life. One must modify how one thinks and acts and this cannot be done in the conscious mind. It must be done in the subconscious mind which by most estimates is a minimum of 85% more powerful than the conscious mind! The subconscious mind is the essence and core of how we experience ourselves and the world! It is the part of the mind that dreams and it is the pathway to the super conscious.

The subconscious is the seat of creativity. It is the seat of imagination. It is the seat of intuition. It houses memories, emotions and habits. And through the autonomic nervous system, it regulates non thinking functions such as eye blinking, healing a cut, breathing, blood pressure and heart rate. Our subconscious mind is what causes our behavior to be what it is. Our life will never become better until we become better performers!

Are you willing to make the modifications in how you think, act and do? If so… you might want to consider hypnosis. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind. Hypnosis reaches the subconscious mind through the frontal cortex, thereby allowing one to obtain lasting therapeutic results. The Challenge of Change is deciding that one must first make changes in one’s behavior in order that desired results can be made manifest. It could well be the first page of the first chapter in an exciting new life. And through hypnosis, you will have much more control over your life than you ever did before!
