Secret Smokers

Monday, October 21st, 2013

My name is Bob Crow. I’m a behavioral therapist. I am board certified in both clinical and medical hypnosis. I practice in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Change.

I would like to address this to the Secret Smokers. Those individuals that don’t want others to think less of them because they smoke. Well… it doesn’t really matter what others think, but it does matter what you are doing to either shorten your life or make your life less enjoyable to live, or both!

Many say that smoking relaxes them. It doesn’t! Period! They may think and believe that it does, but it doesn’t. It’s easy to prove that it doesn’t. When we monitor an individual’s blood pressure and pulse when they are smoking, the blood pressure and pulse both show an alarming increase. No one is relaxed when their blood pressure is up. High blood pressure can cause one to stroke. Plus… when anyone smokes – they become both a blood clotting machine and the smoking constricts the blood vessels in their brain by 40%. That’s 40%! May I have a show of hands of those that wouldn’t mind it if they had a stroke? Right!

In addition to running the very real risk of having a stroke, a smoker is asking to have severe eye problems like glaucoma and macular degeneration. Do you really want to watch television in your advancing years by sitting sideways in front of the TV and only a foot from it in order to make out anything at all on the screen?

Maybe individuals that come to see me come for another reason – they suffer from panic attacks. Did you realize that if you smoke and contract emphysema you run the very real risk of having big time panic attacks? You see as emphysema advances, the patient struggles mightily for each and every breath, and they never really get a good full breath. And as soon as they get that partial breath, they have to begin the struggle all over again to get another partial one. Would you really like to be a burden on your grandkids by having them have to push you through the mall in a wheel chair while you are sucking on a little green bottle of oxygen? And hoping you don’t run out?

Did I mention that not only does smoking put you at risk for lung cancer, but colon cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer, testicular cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer and any place that your blood flows?

When you smoke, the carcinogenic agents and poisons in the smoke flow to your heart and attack the heart muscles – weakening them. Your heart doesn’t like that.

Let me tell you what the experience will be like if you come and allow me to enable you to become a non smoker.

  • You won’t want to smoke anymore! In fact… most individuals have zero desire to smoke after the very first session. You will need to come to the next two sessions and listen to the CDs of those sessions for reinforcement.
  • You will not be climbing the walls.
  • You will not be anxious.
  • You will not crave cigarettes or smokeless tobacco products.
  • You will wonder why you every smoked in the first place!

I guess it’s decided then. You don’t want to die from smoking. You don’t want the enjoyment of life to be diminished, and you do want to become a non smoker.

Call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 and make your appointment to become a non smoker!

You’re still smoking? Really?

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

Do you have a wish to die a slow and scary death? What is wrong with you? In addition to dying from emphysema, there are many types of cancer in addition to lung cancer that one may die from. Depending on which studies that you read, there are between 5000 to 7000 carcinogenic agents in every cigarette. Your lungs and bronchial airways absorb these agents. The contaminated blood carrying these carcinogens is then pumped throughout the entire body!

Therefore in addition to contracting lung cancer, an individual may die of testicular, ovarian, bladder, breast, brain, pancreatic, kidney, liver cancer and the list goes on and on. What percent risk is acceptable to you for contracting one of these killers – 75%, 60%, 50%, 5%? Pick one. You’re gambling with your life. To ignore the chance of a debilitating lifestyle or an early death is not really that smart. Is it?

And how about a stroke? When you smoke, you are a blood clotting machine. When you smoke you constrict the blood vessels in your brain by 40%. When a blood clot is released and it goes north into your brain – bingo – you have a stroke. I wonder what the worst thing about a stroke would be. Not being able to talk? Not being able to walk? Not being able to feed yourself? How about not being able to clean yourself up after a bowel movement? Of course you might have only a mild stroke. Maybe your face might be the only thing that is paralyzed. Maybe it would be limp on only one side. Who wants that?

I’m Bob Crow, a Behavioral Therapist practicing in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Change.. I know that I cannot make you give up smoking. I know that. This article is strong. I know that too. I could not get my father to give up smoking. He always thought that he would have the time to give up cigarettes. But he ran out of time. He died of lung cancer. I could have enabled him to become a non smoker, but he chose to wait too long.

I know you’ve tried to stop smoking…probably countless times. You might have even tried Chantix tm, gums and shots. What you haven’t tried is Bob Crow to enable you to become a non smoker! Bob Crow is a Behavioral Therapist board certified in clinical and medical hypnotherapy. There’s a huge difference in trying to stop smoking with whatever willpower and discipline your conscious mind can muster, and becoming a non smoker with the power of your subconscious mind. You will not be climbing the walls.

Call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 to learn about his three session program to become a non smoker. You… your family and your friends will be glad that you did!

Need to… or want to – which is more important?

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

My name is Bob Crow. I’m a behavioral therapist that is board certified in both clinical and medical hypnotherapy. I practice in Atlanta, Georgia at the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Change.

With hypnotherapy it’s impossible for me to make someone do something that they don’t want to do – stage hypnosis shows to the contrary. Hypnosis therapy will enable an individual to make behavioral changes that they want to make. There may be changes that they need to make, but wanting to make them is more important than needing to make them. The want to needs to be stronger than the need to!

For example – the evidence is undisputable that cigarette smoking does cause several kinds of cancer in addition to lung cancer. The 5000 to 7000 carcinogenic agents in every cigarette are absorbed by the blood in the lungs. This blood is pumped throughout the entire body. Hence one can also contract testicular, ovarian, bladder, breast, kidney, liver and well you get the picture. The important thing is for a smoker to not only know that he or she needs to stop smoking, but more importantly that they must want to stop smoking as well.

An obese individual knows that a high fat, high sugar and high simple carbohydrate diet can bring on and exacerbate diabetes, colon cancer, breast cancer and heart disease. The most important thing is not for an individual to know that they need to immediately change their eating choices and habits, but more importantly that they want to change their eating behavior.

If a person wants to make a behavioral change, hypnosis by a qualified hypnotherapist most definitely is the best choice. The smoking and overeating habits reside in the cognitive maps of the subconscious mind, therefore resolutions to stop smoking or eat healthier and in the correct amounts won’t enable the individual to change because that person is trying to accomplish that with their conscious mind. Long term – that simply cannot be done. Remember – your want to must be greater than your need to!

I invite you to call me, Bob Crow for a consultation for any area of your life that you feel needs behavioral change. Call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 at the Atlanta Center for Behavioral Change.

Stop Smoking Hypnosis

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Hypnosis is an incredible tool to stop smoking. Smoking is a dangerous, even deadly habit. It’s a leading cause of cancer. It also increases your risk for heart attacks, strokes, lung disease, and other health problems, including bone fractures and cataracts.   Millions of people in America still smoke even though the evidence is clear that smoking kills.

During hypnosis to stop smoking we use suggestions to create an aversion to smoking. By giving the suggestion that the cigarette will taste bad, the desire to smoke will decrease. We use suggestions to help overcome the habitual thoughts by replacing them with healthier thought processes.  We also use suggestions to reinforce all the health benefits of becoming a non-smoker such as:

  • Breath is fresher
  • Sense of smell is improved
  • Sense of taste improves.
  • Increased cardiovascular function
  • Lungs heal and risk of cancer begins to drop within months.

Along with the physical benefits of becoming a non-smoker there are also psychological benefits.

  • Improved self confidence
  • Improved self-esteem due to overcoming this addiction/habit.
  • Freedom to go where you wish
  • The ability to widen your social connections
  • Increased desire to improve health.

When you stop smoking your world will open up in many ways. Many of my clients who become non-smokers find that they begin to have a more active lifestyle.  Some might start an exercise program or be able to travel more easily without feeling restricted on airplanes, trains etc.  Many find that other health concerns improve or resolve completely.  Of course lung related issues will improve but there are many other syndromes and illnesses that also may improve:

Stopping smoking is the one thing that every smoker should do this year.  The improvements will be seen within weeks.  Now is the time to take action and overcome this disgusting habit.

If you’d like to become a non-smoker this New Year, call me for all the information you need to decide.

You knew that smoking is dangerous – but did you know how really dangerous it is?

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Stop smoking with hypnosis is the most effective way to get rid of this nasty habit.  In order to stop smoking using hypnosis it is important that you understand the downside of smoking.

Did you know that in addition to the 5000 or so carcinogenic agents found in cigarettes, there are five extremely deadly poisons?

Did you also know that smoking cigarettes causes other types of cancer to develop besides lung cancer?  Obviously this fact makes it even more important to stop smoking with hypnosis.

Here’s how it works. When a cigarette is lit, the fire acts as a catalyst that releases the poisons and carcinogenic agents. When the smoke is inhaled, the mucous membranes of the lungs, gums and throat absorb these carcinogenic agents including the five deadly poisons that are present in all cigarettes. Those poisons are formaldehyde – carbon monoxide – nicotine – arsenic (that has been a favorite poison used for centuries to murder people) and cyanide. Interestingly, these deadly poisons are being brought into one’s body on purpose – not by accident. If one was subjected to those same poisons while working in the work place – they would bring a law suit against their employer.

But I digress. Anyway, this poison-filled carcinogenic smoke is now sucked down into the bronchial air ways… and the lungs. Now in addition to throat, mouth, gum and lung cancer – this person has opened themselves up to contracting emphysema. Can we have a show of hands of how many want to fight with all of their might for their next breath, and never quite get it? Most people would not want to pull a little green bottle behind them while they shop for groceries, or to be pushed in a wheel chair while sucking on an oxygen tube.

Again I digress. Well anyway, now all of these deadly cancer causing ingredients and poisons are floating around in the lungs. The blood is pumped from the heart into the lungs where it is supposed to get oxygen rich blood. But instead of getting oxygen rich blood, this blood is contaminated! This blood has been infused with those five deadly poisons – carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, nicotine, arsenic and cyanide and all of the cancer causing agents. It travels through the entire body. That is why smokers contract ovarian, testicular, bladder, pancreatic, breast, liver, and stomach cancer. Surveys have shown that the majority of the U.S. population still thinks that smoking cigarettes only causes lung cancer. Wrong!

Believe it or not it gets worse. Smoking cigarettes not only constricts (makes much smaller) the blood vessels in the brain, but it also turns the body into a blood clotting machine. What does this mean? It means that when you throw off a blood clot, (you don’t need to get cut to get a blood clot) and if the blood clot travels to your brain, it stands a good chance of getting stuck in the blood vessels. This is known as a stroke. Some strokes kill. Some paralyze one to varying degrees – from total paralysis, to impaired speech, to being trapped in your body with no way of communicating, to reduced mental and cognitive abilities.

The Surgeon General’s warning means nothing to most people. But the downside to smoking is a far greater risk than this writer would ever take.

You’ve tried pills, patches, shots and gum.
You’re still smoking.

My non smoking program consists of three sessions within two weeks. Rarely does someone leave my office and not immediately become a non smoker the very first day! The other two sessions are generally used for reinforcement. If you wish to become a non smoker for life, call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827.

“I stopped smoking three years ago, but then I started again.”

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Almost every time a person calls me about participating in my Become a non smokertmprogram,I hear something like that. They relate to me the number of times that they paused in there smoking habit for awhile, but if they are smoking again, then they never actually stopped. Through will power and discipline they took a break from smoking, that’s all, but the fact that they smoke now means that they were never a non smoker!

This writer is one of those that believe that there is some nicotine component to smoking, but if it were the end all and be all to stopping smoking, why do people smoke while on the patches, or chewing the gum, or taking the shots and medicine? It’s because those things only treat the symptom – not the cause.

Smoking is a habit that resides in the cognitive maps of the subconscious mind. That’s why when people attempt to stop smoking, having the next cigarette is all that’s on their mind! Their subconscious has that desire there all the time. It never leaves them! We have two minds, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The subconscious is 90% stronger than the conscious. The subconscious is where our habits, moods, behavior, memory banks, creativity, imagination and cognitive maps live. To stop smoking one must make behavioral change. It’s impossible to make permanent behavioral change in the conscious mind. Period. Behavioral change must be made in the subconscious mind. The only way to access your subconscious is through hypnosis. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

There is a world of difference in trying to quit smoking and becoming a non smoker.

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

There is a  world of difference in trying to quit smoking, and becoming a non smoker. A man and wife from Florida  came into my Atlanta Georgia office to use hypnosis to quit smoking. My hypnosis therapy for a person  to become a non smoker, is to have three sessions in eight days.

The gentleman said to me “some of my friends and relatives have traveled up from Florida to see you and I know that you can help me to stop smoking. I replied to him “I can’t help you to stop smoking.” His face dropped and he said “I have invested in air fare and a hotel and you say you can’t help me to stop smoking?” I said “I can’t help you to stop smoking… but when you leave here today you will be a non smoker! Just semantics? No. With my program of using hypnosis to quit smoking or to stop smoking, however you want to refer to it, you will in fact become a non smoker!

What does that mean. It means that if you are stressed, if you are having a cup of coffee, if you at a bar having a drink, if you are out letting your dog go to the bathroom, if you have just had intimacy or whatever your cue to smoke is… we will use hypnotherapy to enable you to remove those cues from your cognitive maps to be a non smoker for life!
