There’s no component in the realm of human endeavor that’s as essential to success and happiness as confidence. Confidence gives one power. Confidence gives one strength. Confidence enables one to act with authority. Although ability and intelligence are important, when one lives without confidence, the results will be disappointing. Even genius without confidence will always lead to under achievement!
If one has confidence, one can excel! It doesn’t really matter whether we’re talking about sports, public speaking, sales, relationships, singing, acting, meeting people… or whatever it is. Most often, not always, but most often, we have lots of confidence when no one is watching, but the fear of failure in front of others can be crippling, and the lack of confidence increases with the amount of pressure imposed on the individual either by themselves or by others.
A child is born with confidence. A child is also born with a pre-frontal cortex that’s not fully developed until maybe their late teens, and in the case of males, until they are twenty one or two. Among other things the pre-frontal cortex supplies impulse control. Since a toddler lacks the ability to govern their impulses, parents, brothers and sisters and extended family do it for them. But how they do it, will determine if they destroy the child’s self confidence in the process. Most often they do it with various critical corrections or useless questions that the child has no answer to like, “why did you do that?” “or what were you thinking?” or “just who do you think you are?” In addition to serving no teaching or useful purpose, these questions begin to cause the child to doubt, not just their ability to reason, but to question and doubt their own self worth. This continues on through the adolescent years, when they are probably making even more poor decisions, and then on into the work place. Absenting living a confident life, doubt overwhelms them.
We’ve seen what happens to a person when they are filled with doubt and without confidence. Who hasn’t witnessed an event where an individual had to play taps or sing our national anthem in front of an audience, and they messed up! The trumpet player had played the notes over and over and over again correctly when he had practiced in the band room… but that was when he was alone. The vocalist had rehearsed the national anthem again and again and again… but that was in private. Then, on the day of the performance, the biggest confidence robber of all, doubt, rears its’ ugly head. “What if I blow it?” Doubt is a real confidence killer. The fear of failing or not performing well when it really counts is paralyzing.
How has reading positive books, going to hear positive speakers, listening to motivational CDs, and telling yourself that you have confidence, worked out for you so far? The reason those things haven’t worked and can’t work is that those efforts to make behavioral change are all attempted in the conscious mind. Behavioral change can’t be made in the conscious mind. Ever. Behavioral change can only be made in the subconscious mind.
Interestingly, we were not born with a fear of failing. It and the fear of snakes, heights, public speaking and everything else was programmed into us probably by parents, grandparents, brother, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, school teachers, friends… you name them because the list is endless. We were actually born with only two fears, loud noises and falling backwards. Everything else was taught and learned.
I once had a major league baseball player in my office that had been hitting over 300 for about four months. Then he lost is confidence and his batting average dropped to a little under 200. Diagnosing how he might have changed his swing or stance or whatever he might have started doing differently with the batting coach hadn’t worked. In fact his hitting only got worse. But when we dealt with his lack of confidence in hypnosis on the subconscious level, the results were forthcoming and outstanding!
With hypnosis, we work on improving the confidence in the cognitive maps of a person’s subconscious mind by getting rid of the malignant thinking! Here’s an example. The software of your mind became corrupted years ago. Now when your computer gets a virus, even if you kept turning it on and off repeatedly and thinking positively and hoping that it’d somehow start to work again, if you didn’t remove the virus, that would be an exercise in futility. We must run mental antivirus software through the power of hypnosis on our subconscious mind!
After removing the virus, you must now reprogram your subconscious for confidence. We work on the lack of confidence in the alpha and theta modes of the subconscious mind. This is the only place where one can make permanent behavioral change. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.
What is the process we use to enable a person to have real confidence? First we will try and determine the circumstances that brought about the erosion of their confidence. Then we will enable the person to move past this through hypnosis. Finally, also in hypnosis the subconscious mind is reprogrammed to actually be confident, not just to act confident!
We are designed for success, but often programmed for mediocrity if not failure itself. If you want to really develop your confidence, not for just a couple of days but for the rest of your life, call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 for a complimentary consultation.
