Stop Smoking Hypnosis

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Hypnosis is an incredible tool to stop smoking. Smoking is a dangerous, even deadly habit. It’s a leading cause of cancer. It also increases your risk for heart attacks, strokes, lung disease, and other health problems, including bone fractures and cataracts.   Millions of people in America still smoke even though the evidence is clear that smoking kills.

During hypnosis to stop smoking we use suggestions to create an aversion to smoking. By giving the suggestion that the cigarette will taste bad, the desire to smoke will decrease. We use suggestions to help overcome the habitual thoughts by replacing them with healthier thought processes.  We also use suggestions to reinforce all the health benefits of becoming a non-smoker such as:

  • Breath is fresher
  • Sense of smell is improved
  • Sense of taste improves.
  • Increased cardiovascular function
  • Lungs heal and risk of cancer begins to drop within months.

Along with the physical benefits of becoming a non-smoker there are also psychological benefits.

  • Improved self confidence
  • Improved self-esteem due to overcoming this addiction/habit.
  • Freedom to go where you wish
  • The ability to widen your social connections
  • Increased desire to improve health.

When you stop smoking your world will open up in many ways. Many of my clients who become non-smokers find that they begin to have a more active lifestyle.  Some might start an exercise program or be able to travel more easily without feeling restricted on airplanes, trains etc.  Many find that other health concerns improve or resolve completely.  Of course lung related issues will improve but there are many other syndromes and illnesses that also may improve:

Stopping smoking is the one thing that every smoker should do this year.  The improvements will be seen within weeks.  Now is the time to take action and overcome this disgusting habit.

If you’d like to become a non-smoker this New Year, call me for all the information you need to decide.

Why’d I do that? or Why hypnosis?

Monday, November 5th, 2012

Have you ever asked yourself “why’d I do that?” You did it because of the programming of the cognitive maps in your subconscious mind! But why hypnosis?

Who we are. What we’re about… our personality, our habits, our moods, our memory banks, our cognitive maps – are found in our subconscious mind. In order to make any permanent behavioral changes in your life, you’ve got to make changes in how you see yourself and what you see yourself capable of achieving! I’m Bob Crow – a behavioral therapist that is board certified in both clinical and medical hypnotherapy. I practice in Atlanta Georgia.

Many have tried to improve their life using discipline, willpower, resolutions and positive thinking. The reason that one cannot make these changes permanent is because they are attempting do so with the conscious mind – not the subconscious mind.

Some have wanted to:

  • Stop smoking.
  • Lose weight permanently.
  • Maybe not drink as much.
  • Be more confident.
  • Be more self assured.
  • Be a better sales person.
  • Become a great public speaker.
  • Become a better husband, wife or manager.

Others might have desired to

  • Shoot scratch golf.
  • To have a killer serve in tennis.
  • To perfect their music or acting.
  • To be an engaging entertainer.
  • To get rid of anxiety.
  • In other words to excel in life!

In efforts to make behavioral changes in their lives, they’ve read tons and tons of self help and positive thinking books. They’ve attended motivational speeches and bought and listened to motivational cds and cassette tapes. They’ve really tried. But they tried by using their conscious mind – not their subconscious mind!

Efforts to make behavioral change using the conscious mind are destined to fail. Period! Permanent behavioral change – meaning behavioral change that lasts for more than a couple of days… can’t be made in the conscious mind. Habits, either good or bad aren’t located there. They’re located in the subconscious mind! That’s where one has to go in order to effect real, permanent behavioral change.

Permanent behavioral change must occur in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is made up of the alpha and theta states. The alpha and theta states or modes are where we find our cognitive maps. A working definition of the cognitive maps comes from the Downs and Stea* text book – Cognitive Mapping and Spatial Behavior: “Cognitive mapping is the process by which and individual acquires, stores and recalls information about their everyday life.” These cognitive maps are where we find our habits and opinions. Opinions of who we are… confident, self assured and strong or timid, scared and fearful? These maps direct our behavior. If we want to change our behavior – we must do it by reprogramming the cognitive maps in our subconscious mind. Reprogramming these cognitive maps are the key to changing our behavior. The only way to access the subconscious mind deliberately is through hypnosis.

Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

One can just keep on trying to make the changes in their life just as they have in the past with positive thinking, the self help books and the listening to motivational speeches. But if it hasn’t worked long term in the past, then it won’t work in the future either. Albert Einstein said that “trying the same solution that hasn’t worked before, on the same problem, hoping that somehow it will work today, is the mark of insanity.” Well I don’t think its insanity, but it is kind of useless – isn’t it?

Hypnosis to alleviate the nausea and the fatigue of chemotherapy.

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

Hypnosis is an effective tool for getting rid of  nausea and fatigue of chemotherapy. Those that must under go chemotherapy are counseled by those that are administering it that “they should expect to feel tired and experience nausea”. And then they do. They were given a powerful negative suggestion by the administrator. The person that indicated that they going to feel bad, made this suggestion with good intentions. They didn’t want the person that was to undergo chemo to feel that the side effects were unusual, so they tell them to expect them! That is a suggestion. They will now expect those side effects!

Hypnosis deals with suggestions to the subconscious mind, and those suggestions have proved to be beneficial for medical purposes for well over two hundred years! Hypnotic suggestions allow people to quit smoking, quit drinking, to experience painless dentistry and to make permanent behavioral changes in their lives . Hypnotic suggestions are used to enable individuals to undergo colonoscopies  and cystoscopic examinations without either pain or discomfort! Isn’t this incredible? Doesn’t it make sense that if hypnosis will allow one to undergo medical procedures that normally are conducted with anesthesia without discomfort, these same types of suggestion while in hypnosis, will allow a person relief from the nausea and fatigue of chemo?  In fact the stomach and how it feels  is directly connected to the subconscious mind

I routinely see those that are seeking relief from the symptoms of IBS or Crohn’s disease. Are we saying that we have found a cure for them? Of course not. But isn’t it pretty cool that they can live their lives without the pain, the dysentery, the discomfort and the fear of an attack?

If you or someone you know is undergoing chemo or about to, give me a call for a complimentary consultation.

You knew that smoking is dangerous – but did you know how really dangerous it is?

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Stop smoking with hypnosis is the most effective way to get rid of this nasty habit.  In order to stop smoking using hypnosis it is important that you understand the downside of smoking.

Did you know that in addition to the 5000 or so carcinogenic agents found in cigarettes, there are five extremely deadly poisons?

Did you also know that smoking cigarettes causes other types of cancer to develop besides lung cancer?  Obviously this fact makes it even more important to stop smoking with hypnosis.

Here’s how it works. When a cigarette is lit, the fire acts as a catalyst that releases the poisons and carcinogenic agents. When the smoke is inhaled, the mucous membranes of the lungs, gums and throat absorb these carcinogenic agents including the five deadly poisons that are present in all cigarettes. Those poisons are formaldehyde – carbon monoxide – nicotine – arsenic (that has been a favorite poison used for centuries to murder people) and cyanide. Interestingly, these deadly poisons are being brought into one’s body on purpose – not by accident. If one was subjected to those same poisons while working in the work place – they would bring a law suit against their employer.

But I digress. Anyway, this poison-filled carcinogenic smoke is now sucked down into the bronchial air ways… and the lungs. Now in addition to throat, mouth, gum and lung cancer – this person has opened themselves up to contracting emphysema. Can we have a show of hands of how many want to fight with all of their might for their next breath, and never quite get it? Most people would not want to pull a little green bottle behind them while they shop for groceries, or to be pushed in a wheel chair while sucking on an oxygen tube.

Again I digress. Well anyway, now all of these deadly cancer causing ingredients and poisons are floating around in the lungs. The blood is pumped from the heart into the lungs where it is supposed to get oxygen rich blood. But instead of getting oxygen rich blood, this blood is contaminated! This blood has been infused with those five deadly poisons – carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, nicotine, arsenic and cyanide and all of the cancer causing agents. It travels through the entire body. That is why smokers contract ovarian, testicular, bladder, pancreatic, breast, liver, and stomach cancer. Surveys have shown that the majority of the U.S. population still thinks that smoking cigarettes only causes lung cancer. Wrong!

Believe it or not it gets worse. Smoking cigarettes not only constricts (makes much smaller) the blood vessels in the brain, but it also turns the body into a blood clotting machine. What does this mean? It means that when you throw off a blood clot, (you don’t need to get cut to get a blood clot) and if the blood clot travels to your brain, it stands a good chance of getting stuck in the blood vessels. This is known as a stroke. Some strokes kill. Some paralyze one to varying degrees – from total paralysis, to impaired speech, to being trapped in your body with no way of communicating, to reduced mental and cognitive abilities.

The Surgeon General’s warning means nothing to most people. But the downside to smoking is a far greater risk than this writer would ever take.

You’ve tried pills, patches, shots and gum.
You’re still smoking.

My non smoking program consists of three sessions within two weeks. Rarely does someone leave my office and not immediately become a non smoker the very first day! The other two sessions are generally used for reinforcement. If you wish to become a non smoker for life, call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827.

“I stopped smoking three years ago, but then I started again.”

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Almost every time a person calls me about participating in my Become a non smokertmprogram,I hear something like that. They relate to me the number of times that they paused in there smoking habit for awhile, but if they are smoking again, then they never actually stopped. Through will power and discipline they took a break from smoking, that’s all, but the fact that they smoke now means that they were never a non smoker!

This writer is one of those that believe that there is some nicotine component to smoking, but if it were the end all and be all to stopping smoking, why do people smoke while on the patches, or chewing the gum, or taking the shots and medicine? It’s because those things only treat the symptom – not the cause.

Smoking is a habit that resides in the cognitive maps of the subconscious mind. That’s why when people attempt to stop smoking, having the next cigarette is all that’s on their mind! Their subconscious has that desire there all the time. It never leaves them! We have two minds, the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The subconscious is 90% stronger than the conscious. The subconscious is where our habits, moods, behavior, memory banks, creativity, imagination and cognitive maps live. To stop smoking one must make behavioral change. It’s impossible to make permanent behavioral change in the conscious mind. Period. Behavioral change must be made in the subconscious mind. The only way to access your subconscious is through hypnosis. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

There is a world of difference in trying to quit smoking and becoming a non smoker.

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

There is a  world of difference in trying to quit smoking, and becoming a non smoker. A man and wife from Florida  came into my Atlanta Georgia office to use hypnosis to quit smoking. My hypnosis therapy for a person  to become a non smoker, is to have three sessions in eight days.

The gentleman said to me “some of my friends and relatives have traveled up from Florida to see you and I know that you can help me to stop smoking. I replied to him “I can’t help you to stop smoking.” His face dropped and he said “I have invested in air fare and a hotel and you say you can’t help me to stop smoking?” I said “I can’t help you to stop smoking… but when you leave here today you will be a non smoker! Just semantics? No. With my program of using hypnosis to quit smoking or to stop smoking, however you want to refer to it, you will in fact become a non smoker!

What does that mean. It means that if you are stressed, if you are having a cup of coffee, if you at a bar having a drink, if you are out letting your dog go to the bathroom, if you have just had intimacy or whatever your cue to smoke is… we will use hypnotherapy to enable you to remove those cues from your cognitive maps to be a non smoker for life!
