Addictions and Hypnosis

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Hypnosis to overcome addictions really works.  Once you have detoxed from alcohol, prescription drugs, pot or whatever your addiction is, hypnosis can help by alleviating cravings and stop relapse.  Giving up your ability to move beyond addictions is the ultimate in self sabotage.  All addictions have a strong psychological component.  All addicts are attempting to give something to themselves that they feel is missing.  By using hypnosis and NLP to change the underlying causes you can help addicts become clean and sober.

Most everyone wants to live longer. Today people talk about wellness and longevity. Can one be hypnotized to live a longer life? By and of itself – we don’t think so, but through hypnosis one can make and keep lifestyle choices that will greatly increase our odds of living longer and enjoying life.

Our liver is the ultimate filter. Without it or if it is not functioning properly our lives are less enjoyable, and we die quicker. When it’s called on to filter medications, high fructose sugars, fats, alcohol and cigarette smoke, we damage it, shortening our lives. Here are ways we abuse our liver.

When we talk about excessive drinking, we’re not talking about a glass of wine with a meal, but routinely I see people that consume two thirds to a bottle of wine every night! It’s nice to enjoy a beer on a hot summer day, but I see people that are drinking eight bottles of beer every night. I have advanced the premise for many years that if you drink enough to change the way that you feel – then you are drinking too much! The liver is burdened with the task of removing the alcohol.

Besides the excess calories – 500 calories per night in wine equals about three pounds weight gain a month! Eight beers a night will cause you to gain or not lose approximately twenty – yes that’s twenty pounds a month. In addition to the extra calories, alcohol greatly disturbs your metabolism. Our liver has to attempt to deal with this.

Let’s visit about fat consumption. High fructose sugars, red meats, simple carbohydrates and the quantity of these things that we consume are some of the most harmful culprits. Our liver has to deal with them.

Now let’s factor in the component of cigarette smoking. What’s in cigarette smoke that the liver has to filter out? Poison! When a person inhales the smoke into the mouth, throat, bronchial airways and lungs; the oxygen in their blood is replaced by carbon monoxide (a poison), formaldehyde (a poison), cyanide a poison) and arsenic (a poison). The liver has to deal with and attempt to remove these poisons.

About improving your life…

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

People come to see me because they want to improve some area of their life. Maybe they want to lose weight. Weight they’ve been trying to lose for years! To stop smoking, improve their golf, get better at sales or become a better public speaker. Maybe they even want to improve their relationships!

Everyone wants their life to improve. Many just don’t grasp that in order for their life to improve, they must change their behavior. Behavioral change must take place in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis is the only way to access the subconscious mind as hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious.uk bumble bee bouncer

Many people want their life to improve, without changing themselves. It won’t work that way! With hypnosis you’ll be able to control your subconscious mind which houses your cognitive maps, which in turn direct your behavior… automatically! You’ll be spending less time reacting to situations and fixing things that were brought about by either poor choices or procrastination – or both.

Long term behavioral change cannot be achieved with willpower, discipline, resolutions or good intentions. Any real behavioral change can only take place in the subconscious mind. That’s why self help books and such, which certainly won’t hurt you, have proven to have limited positive effect; they are trying to make the changes in the conscious mind.

The same behavior always yields the same results. No exceptions. Some people come to lose weight, but what they do, is to continue on their same old maintenance diet that they have for years. Their weight won’t come off and their life won’t improve until they change their behavior.

An individual has just come back from a motivational seminar. “He or she is all fired up.” They may even go out and spend some of their new prosperity that they haven’t actually earned or received yet. Three weeks later and things are just about as they were before the seminar. How can that be? They wanted the results to improve… without changing their behavio

Use hypnosis to enable you to function under pressure.

03:29.00         First Officer               we’re gonna be in the Hudson.

When the average person is confronted by a problem, a disappointment, an uncertainty, a fear, or an emergency, their common reflex action is to stress or panic. And when a person stresses, when they panic, they are shut off from their only two problem solvers, their creativity and their imagination. Our creativity and our imagination are located in our subconscious mind – not our conscious mind. We don’t need to think about what’s in our subconscious mind – that’s taken care of automatically.

What if… what if? What if our reflex was to instead of going to stress or panic mode, we reflexed to calm? Our subconscious mind, which  is where our imagination and creativity reside, would allow is to see the problem and the solution with a clarity and an insight that is not available when we are in our stressed or panicked mode.

Can this be done? Yes, as a matter of fact it can done and it is being done every day.

How did US Air Captain Chelsey Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffery Skiles react when they lost both engines on US Air 1549 only minutes and seconds after taking off? We’ve all seen the footage and heard everyone… the passengers… Air Traffic Control… and LaGuardia tower, everyone remarked how calm Captain Sullenberger and First Officer Skiles behaved through the entire ordeal. Yes, they were very well trained. But all the training in the world would have been to no avail if they would have panicked or stressed out when they found themselves flying a 375,000 pound airplane carrying 150 passengers with the engines no longer providing any power whatsoever.

The principles are they same whether you have to make a speech, you are a salesman that has to make a sale, a physician, a parent, an athlete, someone needing to pass a test, a bride planning her wedding … it doesn’t matter. If you reflex to calm instead of panic and stress, your life will be much smoother! You will evaluate the problem and deliver a solution and still remain calm.

In my hypnotherapy practice in Atlanta Georgia, there is not a day that goes by without someone’s presenting complaint having a component that requires steadiness and the ability to make decisions under pressure. If you would like to reflex to calm instead of stress or panic in your life, call Bob Crow at 404.277.18287 for a complimentary evaluation.

Overcoming procrastination through hypnosis.

Overcoming procrastination through hypnosis.

Why does one fail to act even when motivated to act? Why does one fail to take action when they know they must take action? In my hypnotherapy practice in Atlanta Georgia, I see many people whose presenting complaint is procrastination. They realize the negative consequences it has in their life, but they continue to procrastinate. Why?

They’re afraid. Afraid they aren’t ready. Afraid they aren’t well enough organized. Afraid it’s not the right time. Afraid everything isn’t in place. And… afraid of failure. They have excuses but no real reasons. Failing to do what you need to do will assure failure. The results for overcoming procrastination through hypnosis are excellent! If you decide to overcome your fear and act, you’ll have the thrill of winning. If you don’t, you won’t.

I wanted to learn to fly an airplane. I went out to a small airport and said to the instructor “I don’t know how to fly.” I explained I wanted to purchase an introductory lesson. The instructor took me out to the plane and explained what the different parts did. When he finished with the outside, he said “now let’s show you what things are for in the cockpit.” He motioned for me to get into the left seat, the pilot’s seat. Not wanting him to think I already knew how to fly, and not wanting a fatal misunderstanding, I said “I don’t know how to fly.” He said “I know, but let’s show you how things work.” He showed me what the various controls and gauges were for, and then he said “Reach up and grab a hold of that handhold on the dash and pull your seat up closer.” I did. “Now fasten your seat belt.” I did. “Now put on these headphones, that way you can hear the tower and other pilots.” I did. He got into the other seat beside me and fastened his seat belt. I said again I don’t know how to fly.” He said. “I know, now turn that magneto switch past L & R to both.” I did. “Now push in on the throttle and hit the start button.” I did – the engine started. He spoke into the microphone and said “484 Tango is rolling.”

Thinking that we would change places before taking off, I let him show me how to steer with my feet and we went to a run-up area beside the end of the runway. He said “Push on both brakes and run the throttle up to 2000 rpm and turn the switch from both to left and then to right, then lower the throttle.”  I did. Then fearing a huge misunderstanding with fatal consequences, I turned to him again and repeated “I don’t know how to fly.” He said “I know. I heard you before.” “Now steer with your feet, aim down the centerline and when we hit 65 mph lift back on the yoke and fly the airplane.” I did.

Over the next few weeks, he taught me how to take off, climb, turn, fly level and land an airplane. One day we took off and landed right away. He said “go over to the hanger.” He got out and said to me “take off and land my airplane without bending it.” I did.

Take action whether you’re scared or not. Take action whether you feel like it or not. I wasn’t ready. I was scared, but I acted. I quit procrastinating and learned to fly.

Rewiring Your Subconscious Mind

Rewiring Your Subconscious Mind

When is the last time that you were walking and you had to remind yourself – left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot – etc? Of course the answer is never. Our mind automates as much as it can. One of the reasons that it’s so hard to break a habit, is that when we do something enough times, it gets its own neuronal pathways. Each neuron learns to connect and fire with the next one down the line, and the behavior gets set.

When one wants to make behavioral change, we must unlearn the old behavior, before we can replace it with the new desirable behavior!

Wherever we are in life today is the result of our behavior. Much of this behavior is how we really see ourselves. We were born confident and unafraid. In fact the only two fears that we were born with were loud noises and falling backwards. Everything… everything else was taught and learned. We were not born afraid of public speaking. We were not born afraid of making sales calls. We were not born afraid of spiders, snakes or heights. It was all taught and learned. Taught for the most part by well meaning parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, friends, bosses and the list goes on and on. It’s interesting to know that most of the time that we were being taught/learning… we were unaware. Who among us would desire to be afraid of public speaking?

When I work with someone to overcome a phobia (a phobia is an unreasonable fear of something), they must first unlearn the fear that has resided in the subconscious mind. Repeating over and over again in the conscious mind “I’m not afraid of elevators” is useless. The only… the only place that one can make behavior changes is in the subconscious mind and hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind.

There is a world of difference in trying to quit smoking and becoming a non smoker.

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

There is a  world of difference in trying to quit smoking, and becoming a non smoker. A man and wife from Florida  came into my Atlanta Georgia office to use hypnosis to quit smoking. My hypnosis therapy for a person  to become a non smoker, is to have three sessions in eight days.

The gentleman said to me “some of my friends and relatives have traveled up from Florida to see you and I know that you can help me to stop smoking. I replied to him “I can’t help you to stop smoking.” His face dropped and he said “I have invested in air fare and a hotel and you say you can’t help me to stop smoking?” I said “I can’t help you to stop smoking… but when you leave here today you will be a non smoker! Just semantics? No. With my program of using hypnosis to quit smoking or to stop smoking, however you want to refer to it, you will in fact become a non smoker!

What does that mean. It means that if you are stressed, if you are having a cup of coffee, if you at a bar having a drink, if you are out letting your dog go to the bathroom, if you have just had intimacy or whatever your cue to smoke is… we will use hypnotherapy to enable you to remove those cues from your cognitive maps to be a non smoker for life!

Call Bob Crow at 404.277.1827 to become a non smoker.

Cutting back doesn’t work!

Cutting back doesn’t work!

I am a practicing hypnotherapist in Atlanta, Georgia. A great portion of my hypnosis practice here in Atlanta is weight loss. Many people that have came to see me over the years have previously attempted to lose weight by  trying to cut back on what they eat. They’ve done this on a daily or weekly basis for years. Why doesn’t just cutting back work?

Our body is not designed to reflect hourly, overnight or even three or four day differentials in diet so the results that one sees if any, are minimal. People think “what’s the use” then give up and try cutting back a few days later with the same lack of positive results. In order for our body to survive it wants to maintain a status quo so that it doesn’t stress itself over when or if we will get our next meal, such as cave man and other early varieties of man would certainly have done. It was not until a few hundred years ago that man had the luxury of being able to eat “three squares” a day. And it was not until relatively recent times that “junk” food became available at gas stations and fast food stores and virtually everywhere that enabled him to snack or “graze” almost continually.

Many of the people that come to see me for losing weight though hypnosis in Atlanta, Georgia are what I have called compensatory dieters. What does that term compensatory dieter mean? It means that they cut back what they eat and/or how much they eat for a meal or two, or exercise and then rationalize to themselves, that since they’ve “cut back” or exercised they should be able to have a little more of this or a little more of that. They are rationalizing. According to Dr. Gregory House from the popular TV series House, rationalizing means lying to one’s self.

In the cognitive maps found in the subconscious mind, are many, many cues that cause you to revert to your old eating habits. Some of these cues are emotional in nature and some are mechanical. Either way these cues keep one eating the way they are used to eating whether they go on some kind of diet or not. These maps being located in the subconscious mind can only be changed in the subconscious mind. Hypnosis is the bridge to the subconscious mind, it is the only way that one can access their subconscious to change these cues. Diets don’t work. You would really have to think long and hard to recall anyone that has lost an appreciable amount of weight and kept if off for two years. Why? Because these people revert to their previous eating habits as the old cues in their cognitive maps are still in place. Using  hypnosis for weight loss will enable one to move past the old eating cues and replace them with new eating cues. Once the old cues are replaced with new cues, you will begin to eat in a manner that will keep you thin intuitively!

Cutting back is a mindset that doesn’t work for weight loss. Why? Well let’s say that you wanted to take a boat from one side of the Chattahoochee River to the other, if you placed one foot in the boat and left one foot on the river bank, no part of you would make it to the other side! In using hypnotherapy for weight loss one must incorporate the concept of commitment. Put both feet in the boat! That’s commitment! Are you really serious and committed to losing weight? If you are, contact Bob Crow at 404.277.1827  or bob@bobcrowhypnosis.com
